I recently created a new user experience design for an app that allows people to track their hobbies and interests over time. The goal was to provide an easy way for users to log their activities, progress, and accomplishments related to their favorite pastimes. I wanted to create an application that gave a user-friendly and simple experience. I wanted the app to have an anonymous feel so the user could update privately in case they do not feel comfortable posting publicly.
The target audience is adults who want to track the progress of their hobbies without the pressure of posting/sharing their progress. This app is geared towards those who want to grow and track their skills without sharing.
The app includes features to add hobbies. For each hobby, users can record details like dates and a photo for that day’s progress. Users can track their progress toward learning a new skill, reading a certain number of books on a topic, or achieving a target activity frequency. Over time, users build a comprehensive record of their interests that highlights their personal growth and achievements. The hobby tracking app aims to encourage people to further pursue what they love doing.
Drawing inspiration from the calmness and luxury associated with purple, I envisioned an app interface that not only encourages users to explore and track their hobbies but also feels like a personal, serene space. The mood board blends various shades of purple, form the soft lavender hues evoking a sense of tranquility to the deep, rich plums that convey a sense of sophistication and depth. The color palette is carefully curated to stimulate users’ imagination, fostering a space where hobbies can flourish. To complement the primary color, I incorporated accents and text in white, adding a modern, clean edge that enhances usability and readability. A gradient was chosen for the background to give e a dynamic, inviting feel. This all lead to the app creating a cohesive visual narrative. Ultimately, this mood board has laid the foundation for a hobby tracking application that not only functions efficiently but also captivates and inspires its users at every interaction.
Wireframes were sketched out. When I had a design that I liked, I drew a few more sketches to make sure they had all the components needed. After picking out a design I wanted to work with, I started making wireframes. After the website functioned how I wanted it to, I filled in the pictures and other details.
This is a project I would love to expand on. I want to experiment with adding more complicated functionality. I am planning on proceeding with making other iterations of the design with new user problems in mind to further practice my design skills.
