M&K Law

A Project by Audrey

This is an app I have designed myself. A while back, I heard a great way to think about what elements a website needs is to look at ones that need a little help. I decided to look at the websites of local businesses. I took notice that while many had good elements, a lot of law firms seemed to need a little extra help. With this bit of inspiration, I decided to create a website for the fictional M&K law office.

law prototype mood board

Creating a mood board for M&K Law Firm was a project with a specific focus on neutral colors. The decision to use a palette centered around shades of beige and cream was deliberate, aiming to evoke a sense of calm, reliability, and sophistication. The use of neutral colors also meant that every detail, from the typography to the use of space, was harmonized to enhance readability and focus. The mood board served not just as a visual tool, but as a narrative device, conveying the firm’s commitment to providing clear, comprehensive legal solutions in a complex world. The final result was a balanced, cohesive vision that could easily be translated into the design of their website. Creating this mood board for M&K Law Firm became an exercise in embodying the firm’s identity through color and design, demonstrating how neutral hues can carry a powerful nuanced message.

I wanted to create an app that would be a breeze to find the information. On the more complicated law firm websites, I noticed it could sometimes be a little difficult to pinpoint some general information, possibly difficult for those to find who are a little less familiar with navigating on the web in general. I wanted to make sure possible clients who are less familiar with the digital world can easily find the needed information. A lot of websites I have been to seem to be geared towards people who know how to use websites/applications fluently.

I started my research by taking notes on what worked and what did not work. After I took these notes, I was able to start putting together my application. After I created my prototype, I had my grandmother and a few of her friends test out the app. They all had a very successful time finding the information and navigating the site both on mobile and desktop.

Wireframes were sketched out. When I had a design that I liked, I drew a few more sketches to make sure they had all the components needed. After picking out a design I wanted to work with, I started making wireframes. After the website functioned how I wanted it to, I filled in the pictures and other details.

I made a mobile application. I wanted to include a simple navigation within a hamburger menu. I wanted the design of the app to have a similar feel and use the same pictures, with the exception of the long Attorneys page.

This is a project I would love to expand on. I want to experiment with adding more complicated functionality. I am planning on proceeding with making other iterations of the design with new user problems in mind to further practice my design skills.
